TrickORTreat! Halloween Sale!

Dearest friends,

It’s that time of year again…  When it’s normal to walk around with fake blood on your face and plastic vampire teeth in your mouth.  When fishnet stocking companies rake in the millions.  When fake tombstones take the place of plastic flamingos in your neighbor’s yard.

That’s right.  It’s the perfect time to start watching “A Nightmare before Christmas.” It’s…Halloween.

I love how on this holiday, we can rejoice together in our weirdness, and let go … Read the rest

Peaceful Warrior

As of late I’ve found much creative inspiration from yoga.
Yoga as a form of movement, yes,
but also as a tool for heart-opening.

I came across this meditation taught by author/teacher Jack Kornfield,
& this week I’ve practiced filling my thoughts with these words:

“May I be filled with lovingkindness.
May I be safe from inner and outer dangers.
May I be well in body and in mind.
May I be at ease and happy.”

In the midst of

Baltimore & The Joshua Tree

Baltimore.

The city from which I hail.

…So how could we not stop for a visit?

If you watch the show “The Wire” and have never been to Baltimore, you might be disappointed (if you were hoping for gang fights and drug busts.)  In parts of town like Fells Point, the streets are lined with brownstone homes, Irish pubs, mixology bars, munchy/hangover-food diners, yoga studios, and preppy-city boutiques.  When you visit the Inner Harbor, you’re met with landmarks such as … Read the rest

On the Road: Discovering Asheville & the Local Designer Scene

[[ Travel details: Monday July 6th marked our first day of driving.  Of course, with all the things I saved for last-minute, we didn’t leave until 8pm.  So that meant driving through the night.  Joel is my driving-hero, so I slept while he drove until about 2am when I imagine he was on the verge of passing out behind the wheel before waking me up.  So from 2-4am, I drove through the nearly-empty highway cutting through Atlanta and up into … Read the rest

ShockT (“shak’ti”) USA-Road Trip Summer 2015

IMG_3747

We are embarking on a journey.  Traveling in Marvin (an “alien green” 2010 Kia Soul, a.k.a. “the ShockT space shuttle”), Joel and I are taking a 2-month loop around the USA-nation.

Joel (my partner-in-crime, a.k.a. @chieffunguy) had his last day working as a nurse in a Tampa Bay hospital on Saturday, June 27th.  I (@courtneyshockt) taught my last fitness/yoga class in St. Pete for this summer on Friday, July 3rd.  It was fitting for our road trip to begin the … Read the rest

Letting Go & Going Forth

A theme that has been surfacing in my life lately: Letting Go.

Consider this–

If you went through your closet and your drawers and pulled everything out, and made two piles– one contains items worn within the last year, the second, everything else– how big would each pile be? Can you make your favorite pile … Read the rest

Mother’s Day Sale!

 To Mom:

Where do I begin?

My mother has played such a huge role in my life, it’s impossible to find the words to express my gratitude.

She’s shown me how to be a supportive friend, a caring sister, a loving daughter, and a joyful human being.

Her energy always amazes me– when I feel like crumpling onto the couch, she powers through to get. it. done.

And what would life be like without the sense of humor she passed Read the rest

Music Festivals: A Peaceful Revolution

Music festivals have been a part of our modern culture since the rise of Woodstock in 1969. Springing forth from the creative ambitions of counter-culture, these gatherings range from small local bands who play for a few hundred people, to world-famous acts that rake in hundreds-of-thousands of eager patrons from around the world. But despite the peaceful intentions that often lay the foundation of music festivals, festival-goers may find themselves perpetually linked to stereotypes of drug abuse, frivolousness, and social … Read the rest
