Peaceful Warrior

As of late I’ve found much creative inspiration from yoga.
Yoga as a form of movement, yes,
but also as a tool for heart-opening.

I came across this meditation taught by author/teacher Jack Kornfield,
& this week I’ve practiced filling my thoughts with these words:

“May I be filled with lovingkindness.
May I be safe from inner and outer dangers.
May I be well in body and in mind.
May I be at ease and happy.”

In the midst of falling ill with a fever, fearful of having caught some tropical virus,
while still doing my best to keep up my work on the farm
and in my sketchbook and journal,
these words helped shift my fearful, helpless thoughts
into a place of calm strength.

And as I’ve seen typed on the tags of Yogi Tea bags:

“A calm mind
is a creative mind.”

There is strength in maintaining calm.  Like a peaceful warrior.

(a sketch from this week inspired by the balance of strength & grace in this “exalted warrior” pose…
also prompted by Joel’s suggestion to “draw something flowy.”)  […after shading in one arm, I couldn’t resist drawing the other with a peekaboo shoulder… ShockT, represent!]

What do you think?
What yoga pose would represent your own “power qualities”?

Or, maybe its not a pose, but an animal, or a symbol, that reminds you of the qualities you value most in yourself and others.

I’d love to hear your own idea of a “power pose!”  Make a mention in the comments, or email me at!
